‘What is Corporate Governance for and what role do NEDs play?

David Stringer-Lamarre, within his role of Chairman of the Institute of Directors (IoD), City of London was pleased to moderate this important and very well attended event.

The presentations & discussion combined business practice with academic research and thought leadership. It was a joint event between IoD City of London & Cass Business School; this is the fifth.

Following a welcome speech by Professor Paul Palmer, Associate Dean, David spoke about some of the definitions of ‘governance’, the range of activities that NEDs may undertake and the IoD’s strong interest and leadership in this area.

Various areas were discussed including the relationship between a company, shareholders and other stakeholders, the influence of regulators, extra-territorial considerations, the role of a NED as a constructive critic, diversity of the board and remuneration of NEDs.

Following the comments & questions session attendees were able to continue the discussions over refreshments.
