Welcoming the announcement by the Prime Minister of a review into mental health at work, Simon Walker, Director General at the Institute of Directors, said:

“The very fact that the Prime Minister is delivering a speech on mental health is to be celebrated, as it is still too often seen as a taboo subject. Mental health problems touch us all, and employers have a real role to play ensuring the health, physical and mental, of their workforce.

“However, while many large businesses already have policies in place to foster good mental health at work, it can be a difficult issue for small and medium-sized firms to manage. We welcome this review, which we hope will provide practical measures to help employers and staff to tackle this important challenge.”
