‘Our Lady of Lourdes Chapel’, Philippines

Helen Whittaker FMGP, award winning artist. ‘Our Lady of Lourdes Chapel’, Filinvest City, Alambang, Philippines is now operational. A fantastic three countries project: Philippines, Japan and UK.

Fortis Consulting London was pleased to act as Advisor to Helen Whittaker FMGP and Barley Studio.

The Chapel was commissioned by Filinvest, Philippines. The design effort was led by Japan based Hiroshi Nakamura. Helen Whittaker FMGP, based at Barley Studio in York, UK, designed the stunning, towering stained glass windows which cover approximately 180 square meters. These feature a predominantly abstract, geometric design accentuated with symbolic references to the Virgin Mary. The windows were constructed and installed by Kraut Art Glass, Philippines, led by Robert Kraut.

Helen’s designs for the six windows incorporate Marian symbols, in an abstracted form, at the centre of each window. The symbols are inspired by the Marian Apparitions experienced by Saint Bernadette Soubirous at Lourdes. The geometry used in the designs, forming the backdrop to the symbols, is inspired by the form of the lily flower. The six windows use colours arranged in a rainbow sequence around the Chapel, to remind us of God’s covenant of grace and everlasting love.
