The British Malaysian Society (BMS): ‘Reception to celebrate Scottish & Malaysian links.’ David Stringer-Lamarre, MD, FortisCL, was pleased to deliver the concluding remarks and this interesting and friendly event at the East India Club in London.

Fortis Consulting London is active in business development between UK and Malaysian companies. David Stringer-Lamarre is Chair of the International Trade Group of the BMS.

David said “The welcome address was made by the Chair of BMS Mei Sim Lai. This was followed by a speech from Gavin Wilkins who described some of his early positive encounters with people from Malaysia in Scotland; setting a framework for the evening involving education, cultural exchanges and the combination of food and…… whisky.

“Sir Alan Yarrow spoke of his early years in Malaysia, the historic ties between the two countries and his visit to Johor Bahru during his time as Lord Mayor of the City of London. Charles Hay, Former British High Commissioner to Malaysia, commented upon the business links between Malaysia, the UK and of course Scotland, a shared love of golf.

“Professor Kanes Rajah delivered an informed session on the tasting and enjoyment of whisky including a discussion about the pairing of whisky with food in Malaysia. Marianna C, who was also celebrating her birthday, read the poem Auld Lang Syn, also kindly commenting on its meaning.”
