‘Finding Nathan: Using Science to Discover the Secrets of Stained Glass.’

‘Finding Nathan: Using Science to Discover the Secrets of Stained Glass.’ David Stringer-Lamarre, MD of FortisCL, and Upper Warden of ‘The Glaziers’, was very pleased to be the Moderator for a fascinating Worshipful Company of Glaziers and Painters of Glass webinar with Ian Freestone, Professor of Archaeological Materials and Technology at UCL, and Leonie Seliger, the Director of the stained glass conservation studio at Canterbury Cathedral. A splendid double act.

The windows of Canterbury Cathedral contain the earliest monumental stained glass in Britain. Until recently, the late 12th century figure of Adam from the Ancestors of Christ series of windows was thought to be the oldest example. Are there, however, survivors from an even earlier cycle of windows, presumed lost to a devastating fire just four years after Thomas Becket’s murder in the cathedral?
