
The British Malaysian Society (BMS) – David Stringer-Lamarre, MD, Fortis Consulting London was pleased to be the moderator, within his role as Chair, BMS International Trade Group. He said “It was a remarkable panel which delivered an interesting and engaging session looking at trade & investment opportunities between the UK/Malaysia/ASEAN.
“Mei Sim Lai OBE DL, Chair, BMS delivered a warm welcome address. This was followed by a welcome of behalf of The City of London Corporation from Henry Pollard, Chief Commoner who explained some of the working of The City and its strong support for international trade.
“Amir Hakim Mohd Yusof, Malaysia Investment Development Authority, spoke about opportunities in Malaysia and how he and his team were always ready to assist UK companies. David Johnstone, Department of Business & Trade, provided insights into the CPTPP and how this creates opportunities for companies. Joon Nien Mak, Standard Chartered Bank, shared his insights into current and future business activity between the UK and Malaysia. Charles Hay MVO, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, brought the various themes of the discussion together sharing his views about how UK companies could increase their export activity.
“After the question & comments section, Gavin Wilkins, Hawksford and BMS International Trade Group leadership member, delivered the vote of thanks. Closing remarks were made by Mei Sim Lai OBE DL, before networking over refreshments.
