Macau. David Stringer-Lamarre, MD of Fortis Consulting London said “I am very pleased to be able to see Helen Whittaker’s painting in glass ‘God does not play dice with the universe’ within The London Pavilion’ of ‘Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2023’.”
In Helen’s exhibition piece, the blueprint of St Paul’s Cathedral, London, represents the heritage and traditions of city life. This is juxtaposed with representations of the gaming industry, dice and a roulette wheel, showing how people are moving away from traditional religion towards new beliefs of luck, chance and destiny.
Helen is one of only three UK artists invited to take part in “Art Macau”, which runs from 27th July until 10th October 2023. The theme of “Art Macao” is The Statistics of Fortune, while the theme of the “London Pavilion” is Cathedrals of the 21st Century. The Pavilion is curated by Roger Wu, KERO.
The organisers of the Macao International Biennale are the British Consulate General in Hong Kong and Macao Secretary for Social Affairs and Cultural of the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region. The co-organiser is the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region.
Helen’s portfolio of international works includes a previous collaboration with Roger Wu for exhibition at the Haw Par Mansion in Hong Kong (‘Time & Space’), as well as the commission of a complete glazing scheme (six windows each 20m high) for the Our Lady of Lourdes Chapel in Filinvest City, Philippines. In the UK, Helen has collaborated with Royal Academists David Hockney and Hughie O’Donoghue for Westminster Abbey as well as creating windows in prestigious ecclesiastical and secular buildings.
Fortis Consulting London is very pleased to be able to showcase Helen’s work.
